RADIO STATION
The original mission statement for the Centre for Performing ARTS calls for a community radio station to become part of the creative umbrella. Application for a low powered-fm radio station are in the works which will put Montague on the proverbial communications map one day. The purpose of this radio station will be to provide an educational forum to all age levels, including but not limited to the eastern school district, most notably the surrounding schools, to offer communications and broadcast experience training as well as the ability to broadcast locally. For example, can you imagine one day hearing Montague school students doing the daily announcements and schedules right from your own car radio, or perhaps, a Montague traffic or weather report? Endless ideas for community radio is possible, with such local programming like I (Eye) on Montague, the Mayor’s Corner, Celtic Music Hour, current and vintage music, or radio theatre are just the tip of the iceburg!
Recently, federal and Aviva Community grant applications have been made so that the reality of a community radio stations is just one step closer. Parnterships with the seniors community organizations, and the Montague family of schools will allow for mentorship relationships to be created and implemented as part of this process.
The radio station, much like the ARTS Centre, can only exist with the help of community, volunteers, and positive creative driving forces collectively. This is just one of many artistic components that will make ART Alive in eastern PEI, all under one roof!
