School of Drama/Theatre
The Centre for Performing ARTS School of Drama and Theatre was founded in 2002 with the first class at Montague Intermediate School. Since forming, the School of Drama and Theatre has competed in the annual Eastern School District’s Drama Festival held yearly at the Confederation Centre of the Arts. The Drama troupe has performed countless one act, and full length plays at many festivals as well as the Centre’s stage including performing originally scripted plays collaborated by the students and driven by the Director, Virginia Winter. There are several drama classes offered for ages beginning 5 years through senior adults. Drama and theatre classes are offered to students after school and early evenings for adults. Senior adult classes are available in groups during day classes. Ms. Ceri Davies Fletcher is co-director of the Theatre School bringing along with her a wealth of formal education, experiential learning, directing, and teaching. Additionally, she is a gifted musician in both piano, flute, and vocals.
Students have the ability to help write, choreograph plays and scripts as well as participate in creating scenery, props, costumes, and stage make up. Teen drama classes are offered for students beginning in junior high through high school. Adult drama classes are offered as well as Women’s Drama groups, and the troupe, Kings and Queens players is by audition process and membership.
